Patient is your best teacher

"Patient is your best teacher. When you have time, go to the hospital and clerk patient"

A wise man said this to us, students, once. What he said was indeed true. I noticed that though I read about some diseases from those thick huge books, I find it easier to remember all the details through my observation from the patients.

I must say that I am pretty thankful that I am studying here in India as the patients mostly are cooperative although sometimes they get annoyed when you asked question while they are in pain. Some days, you might even be lucky to have patients that speak English. Here, at where I am now, the locals majority use Kannada language, Marathi language or Hindi. I am happy enough if my patients are able to speak Hindi.

Patients here are welcoming the students and they look up on medical students like how they look upon their doctors. They greet you "Namaskar Madam" while smiling brightly.

There was this one time I got a patient with venous ulcer secondary to varicose vein. He was so cooperative which i was thankful about and everyday when I came to check on him, he will always asked whether i have eaten or not. He told me about his problems that led to his newly diagnosed hypertension. I was touched on how he trust me to tell his problem which are personal to him.
Building rapport is not easy with language barrier and the struggle is real guys.

There are also times when I tried to clerk a pediatric patient.Her mother who is her informant couldn't understand a word we're saying so she gave up on us. Yes, I was disappointed but what can I do? I'll just have to go and find another patient.

You know they trust you are good when they asked for your help in the ward like when the IV fluid isn't running or when they need any medication. I am not trained and am not qualified to do that just (without supervision) yet so I call the sister/brother in charge to take a look at them and still I'm happy that they trusted me.

Another doctor told us that when you clerk a patient and you don't know what the disease that are having. A disease that you never learned or never heard of before. You can get all the info from the patient itself. Start by asking the symptoms they are having that brings them to the hospitals. Any investigation done? what are the treatments they are taking? any side effects?
Through all these questions, you'll get to learn the whole thing about the disease. Been there, tried that and acquired the info.

I am definitely not a book worm (I tried to be one) so I try going to hospital everyday if I am able to because patient is your best teacher right?

Lecturers are the best teachers too, don't forget that. So, don't skip class!

Perks of Studying Overseas

Assalammualaikum.
Hye guys !

Busy la lately ni. Busy merenung masa depan. Hahahaha takdelah tipu je. Buat buat busy adalah!
I just came back from Malaysia after a week of Deepavali holiday. And I now, I don't even have to say out loud, everyone was already expecting me to be homesick already and yes I am.

Susah kan duduk jauh. Tapi rezeki kat sini jadi kita kena tabah kan diri jelah kan. Sob sob!Takpe cuti CNY nanti balik lagi yeay! InsyaAllah, permudahkanlah urusan semua kan. Amin.

Kalau siapa yang dok baca post aku sebelum sebelum ni mesti tau aku ni asyik meroyan homesick je kan. Tu salah satu benda tak best kalau duduk oversea (excuse diri ini yang terlalu overly attached with family). But then, besides from homesick, there are actually lots of good things we when we study overseas.

Tak tipu pun. Serious. Ramai je tanya aku pasal best tak duduk oversea? duduk india? and such. Seronok je. You get to learn lots of new things.

Aku bagi contoh yang senang lah ya. Dekat Malaysia pernah kau nampak lembu atas jalan raya, bersiar siar ikut suka mereka? Tak pernah kan? Sini, hari -hari kau boleh tentang mata dengan lembu. Kat Malaysia, selaintiba Hari Raya Qurban, aku tak nampak pun lembu berkeliaran memana.

Contoh kedua: Kalau selalu tengok movie hindustan je mesti banyak lagukan. Hero and heroin bertentang mata, terus scene menyanyi menari keluar kan. Tipu je. Real life takde pun. Kan sini aku tengok orang bertentang mata, elok je, takde pun jejeoget, nyanyi nyanyi ni semua. Haaa gitu tau! Sebab ada lah beberapa kawan aku yang suka layan citer hindustan ni tanya pasal ni. Takde wey. Jarang betul aku nampak orang menari tanpa sebab kukuh kat sini.

Lagi satu students kat sini, ramai yang ambik peluang travel kesini sana. Ada yang pi europe trip, north india trip, korea, jepun, south india and banyak lagi lah. Yelah sebab bila kat india ni, kau dah half way dah drpd journey tu so they don't want to waste the opportunity.

Kau pun boleh belajar nak masak makanan sedap sedap. Yelah dah duduk jauh dari family kan. Makkau takde kat hosteltu nak tolong masakkan hari hari. Inilah masa untuk kau berdikari. Berdiri atas kaki sendiri . Tak gitu? So nanti kalau kau dah stat kerja, lepas tu duduk rumah sewa sorang sorang takdelah hari-hari kau pegi restoran makan.

 Banyak je lagi keliebihan dia. Lain tempat, lain kelebihan. Macam aku duduk india, nak balik takdelah kena transit dekat Dubai ke apa kan. From Goa or Bangalore ada direct flight ke Malaysia. Macam kawan aku ramai yang kena transit dulu. Sebab tu ramai malas nak balik sebab dah bazir hari bila transit banyak tempat. Aku kira untunglag jugak duduk India ni.

Point aku is, masing-masing punya tempat ada je kelebihan and kekurangan dia. Apa-apa pun,  niat kau tu yang penting. Pasang niat tu betul-betul, InsyaAllah nanti jalan kau dipermudahkan.

Belgaum, India .

Allow me to introduce you to Belgaum, India please .

Jangan tanya kenapa tau. Sebab dah penat dah banyak kali orang asyik tanya belajar kat belgaum tu kat mana? Penat jugak nak menjawab dan meng-explain. Aku ni tak lah hebat pun geografi tapi tiba-tiba rasa macam aku arif tentang maps semua ni. Cehh berlagak la konon kan.

Reality nya aku sendiri pun taktau wujudnya tempat ni kat sini tau. Kalau aku tak masuk USM-KLE IMP ni memang aku takkan tahu pun. Jadi Alhamdullilah sebab mata dan pandangan aku semakin meluas sekarang walaupun ada sedikit (banyak) homesick.

Dulu aku taktau pun USM ni ada buat collaboration dengan KLE University untuk buat offshore programme. Pernah dengar je tapi tak berminat sebab jauh nau ke India kan. Dulu bajet anak kesayangan parents gittuuu.

Dulu aku pun noob, time nak pergi interview untu programme ni baru aku terkial kial car kat google maps semua. Siap cari airport ada tak yang berdekatan (journey 30min je dengan tambang 600 rupee satu auto dari hostel) tapi airport dia tak direct ke malaysia sbb dia operate flight ke chennai and belgaum je and few lagi tapi semua local je. Airport dia kecik, i mean sangat kecik sebab dia offer local flight je kot kan. 

Lepas dah cari kat google maps, aku sibuk baca kat website usm pasal usm-kle imp ni. Pasal hostel lah, facilities, campus and all. I have to say that I am impressed by reading it only tapi bila aku dah sampai sini pun aku still impress sebab bilik serupa hotel. Kat mana kau nak dapat hostel yang satu bilik memang fix maximum 2 orang siap ada bathroom, attached cupboard and study table pastu ada pantry cabinet kecik. Dah lah kati single bed yang ada kiri kanan side tables and cermin besar kat dinding yang kalau buat selfie memang lawa sebab head to toe boleh masuk.

Tak cukup dengan tu, aku google blog blog senior sini. Jumpa wey. Banyak gila senior ada blog rupanya. Aku baca satu satu post kat blog diorang sebab nak tahu sangat life kat Belgaum ni macam mana. Alhamdullilah takde lah hambar sangat walaupun at times akan rasa jugak hambar.

Tapi kalau kau jenis yang memang tak keluar makan kat kedai hari hari (sebab first year ada MESS) , takdelah kot kau rasa bosan. Disebabkan aku ni jenis yang suka sangat nak berjalan kehulur kehilir, aku dah bosan sikit la ngan kawasan ni. Tu yang aku try kurangkan jalan so that aku boleh lah jugak rindu sikit kawasan sini. 

Kedai makan aku tak berapa nak explore lagi lah sebab yang orang reccomend kat aku, semu aku dah pergi, yang lain-lain tu belum rasa nak try. Makanan tepi-tepi jalan ni diorang kata sedap je tapi aku yang bajet paranoid habis, taknak makan. Aku jenis memilih sangat sangat maaf lah korang. Lagi satu aku takut hygiene dia je. Jadi aku ambil langkah berjaga-jaga je kan.

Nanti aku sambung lagi cerita pasal kedai-kedai kat belgaum. Location kedai pun specific aku ingat tau nak membuktikan aku ni dah nak muntah dah berpusing pusing tempat yang sama.
